"System Configuration Utility" Error Message
Entered System Configuration Utility (SCU) for a clean boot while uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of Norton programs. (There was an unexpected glitch in the process, which led to both of the programs being upgrading, as well.) When all was said and done, I returned to the SCU to change back to a Normal Startup; the following error message appeared: "An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes." Norton Customer Service claims this is a Microsoft issue, even though in the several years since I've had this system I've NEVER received this message. There are no other users; I am the Administrator. Norton claims there is nothing they can tweak, and that uninstalling and reinstalling may not fix the problem. I suspect a simple Windows configuration issue, possibly involving the Registry, but don't know how to proceed.6 people need an answerI do too

The issues I have with the way Microsoft does things is first if you have an error message such as the one we are all hoping for an answer to however there is no ability to copy and paste and error message exactly as it is displayed rather than having to re-type the whole message. When there is an error such as this SCU message tell me specifically what caused it! What was Windows doing exactly and what stopped it? I do not have the HP printer software that everyone claims is the problem on the internet. I DID sign in as the Administrator just in case my normal sign in was some how corrupted, which it was not, with the same error message as the result. Did a lot of different scans, bought new software and nothing seems to find the issue! I think most users are like me and there are many progams you only use on occassion so you do not need them to load on startup and have them taking up resources. So the options are to either disable their startup or uninstall them and then reinstall them when you wish to use them. Rather stupid. I'd really like to see someone address and answer this rather than just leaving it for someone else to figure out. After all Microsoft aren't you supposed to be the "experts"?
